David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust – 2 Hours The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is a home for orphaned baby elephants and rhino's. The trust is a small, flexible charity, established in 1977 to honour to memory of a famous Naturalist, David Leslie William Sheldrick MBE , the founder Warden of Tsavo East National Park in Kenya , where he served from its inception in 1948 until his transfer to Nairobi in 1976.
By supporting many different programs, the Trust has had a great impact in conservation, rearing elephants and rhinos, and many worthwhile activities. You can be a part of this history and conservancy with a visit to this home, which will give you a chance to mingle with the baby elephants and rhinos as well as donate to this worthwhile cause.
Nairobi National Park: 4 hours This is the only National Park to be in a cosmopolitan city in the world! The unique wildlife sanctuary is just a few kilometers from Nairobi 's bustling city center but despite its proximity over 50 species of mammals can be found there, including four of the Big Five. The tour also includes a visit to the animal orphanage at the park gate. The tour returns to the city centre by sundown.
Karen Blixen and Giraffe Center: 4 hours
Drive towards the Ngong Hills and pass the Ngong village to the Karen Blixen Museum , former home to Isaak Bisen (Karen Blixen) of the ‘out of Africa ' fame. Later proceed to the Giraffe Centre to see and feed the famous Rothschild Giraffe and her family.
Bomas of Kenya: 3 hours
A ‘Boma' is a homestead. The Bomas of Kenya, is a replica of the homesteads of all the tribes of Kenya . At the bomas hall, you will be treated to rich traditional music and dance shows at this cultural centre. Bomas of Kenya is only ten kilometers from the city centre.
Birdwatchers Paradise - Naivasha Full Day
Nairobi – Naivasha
Begin the excursion with the drive to the great rift valley's Lake Naivasha at 0800hrs. Start with a visit to Elsamere, the former home of the late Joy Adamson, of the ‘born free' fame. Have a nature walk where you can spot for the lakes numerous birdlife, spot the many species of water fowl and brilliantly coloured kingfishers. The lake is home to the largest water fowl population in Kenya . Also visit the elsamere conservation projects. The conservation centre provides information on the lakes ecology and regularly hosts research programes to monitor the lake and the local wildlife.To relax further, enjoy elsameres boat ride.
Elsamere has also become quite famous for its resident troop of black and white Colobus monkeys which visit the centre regularly. Guests may easily view the troop from the lakeside lawn. Other frequent visitors to the centre are a pod of hippopotami which often graze on the lawn at night. Lake Naivasha is of great ecological importance.
After lunch, visit the Hells gate national park for game viewing. Watch raptor nesting in cliffs and enjoy spectacular gorge walks Visit the Parks pair of massive red tinged cliffs framing a geothermically active interior of steam vents and bubbling springs. If up to it, biking and rock climbing is allowed in the park.
Take photos of Giraffes as they wander among the acacia, Buffalo wallowing in the swamps and Columbus monkeys calling from the treetops while the Lakes large hippo populations sleep the day out in the shallows.
Visit the two smaller lakes nearby, Oloidien, and Sonachi, a bright green cater lake.
At the end of an enjoyable visit, drive back to Nairobi arriving in the evening, dropping off at your hotel or to the airport for your departure back home.
